Thanks to high standards for learning foreign languages nowadays, one of the challenges teachers have is helping students develop their communication abilities. Emerging methods based on NLP, also known as neuro-linguistic programming, are not used to their full potential in the teaching of the English language. The aim of this research is to determine how the use of techniques from Neuro-Linguistic Programming as a methodology influences the process of teaching English as a foreign language (EFL) because the use of different techniques can offer EFL learners new learning opportunities.
The research was qualitative in nature and involved gathering and analyzing non-numerical data from professional articles published on Scopus, Web of Science and Research Gate databases. For the review of documents, the documentary bibliographic review (Desk research) method of an analytical type was used. Thus, in this article NLP techniques and their application have been collected and analyzed from available secondary sources, such as MA and PhD dissertations, academic publications and other materials available online and in libraries. The results show Neuro-Linguistic Programming is a successful EFL teaching methodology and can be used as the main strategies and tools to enhance students’ communication abilities and to activate EFL learning in students. Thus, Neuro-linguistic programming is characterized as a collection of models, methodologies, and tactics for modeling excellence that contribute to a better understanding of human behavior and by setting an example of greatness, students can influence each other for the better.
