The main purpose of this study is to identify theoretical foundations and practical possibilities of thematic lexicographic systems in the process of compiling a computerized dictionary. The study also aims to develop a scientifically based model of the automated dictionary process, systematize lexical units based on topic and semantic fields, and substantiate the significance of electronic dictionaries in education, translation and scientific research.
To achieve the research goal, several scientific objectives were defined. The analysis of formation and development of computerized lexicography; to determine the linguistic essence of the concept of a thematic vocabulary; a comparative study of the differences between traditional and electronic dictionaries; analysis of methods of automatic selection and classification of lexical units; the tasks of systematizing vocabulary materials based on semantic fields are performed. Also, determining the level of adaptation of electronic dictionaries to user needs is also one of the research tasks.
In this study, a complex of modern linguistics and digital lexicography methods were used. In particular, the descriptive-analytical method was used to determine the linguistic properties of lexical units. The differences between traditional and computerized dictionaries were analyzed using a comparative method. On the basis of corpus linguistics methods, the frequency and contextual use of lexical units were studied. Also, automated data processing, statistical analysis, and modeling methods have played an important role in determining the effectiveness of the dictionary compilation process.
The results of the study showed that themed computerized dictionaries are superior to traditional dictionaries in terms of speed, flexibility and interactivity. Grouping of lexical units in electronic dictionaries by topic and semantic fields serves the quick and easy assimilation of information by the user. The model developed during the study showed that electronic dictionaries have high efficiency in educational, translation, and terminological research.
