The primary aim of this research is to explore the life of the renowned Scottish poet Robert Burns in connection with his poetry, to introduce readers to his extensive body of work, and to convey the poet’s experiences. The article discusses how the poet’s poetry relates to his life and emphasizes the significance of studying his biography concerning his lyrical works.
Our article aims to explore the impact of the poet’s living environment, time, and location on his poetic works. We seek to gain insight into the poet’s life experiences through his poetry, understand the inner world of the lyrical hero, and connect it to his external world. To achieve this, we employed biographical, psychological, psychoanalytical, creative-genetic sociological, and historical-cultural analyses.
Based on the research findings, his moral beliefs are clearly evident in his poetry. These views play a significant role in his work, as he effectively distinguishes between good and evil, urging people to do good. As a Scottish poet, he expressed his love for his country, demonstrating the Scottish ideal of loyalty to its people and love for the homeland. Analyzing R.Burns’ biography and his work from a literary standpoint can contribute to improving international relations, promoting cultural exchange, and fostering mutual education among nations. While his poetry was characterized by patriotism, themes such as sadness, death, poverty, hunger, longing, and dreams were also prevalent. Although he primarily wrote in the Scottish dialect, he also produced many poems in pure English, cementing his poetry as an integral part of many readers’ libraries.
After learning about the poet’s biography, we concluded that his difficult life in poverty had a significant impact on almost all of his poetic works. A lyric poet expresses his feelings through his poems at every stage of his life.
