This article presents a comprehensive forensic linguistic investigation into speech manipulation techniques employed in English and Uzbek communicative contexts. The primary goal of the study is to systematically identify, classify, and comparatively analyze linguistic strategies used for manipulation, thereby enhancing understanding of how language can influence, deceive, or persuade audiences across different cultural and legal frameworks.
The study is grounded in five core tasks: (1) examining the theoretical foundations of speech manipulation within the framework of forensic linguistics; (2) identifying and categorizing manipulative techniques such as presuppositions, implicatures, euphemisms, metaphors, and authoritative assertions; (3) analyzing the frequency and contextual distribution of these techniques across a corpus of authentic texts, including legal documents, media articles, political speeches, and social media discourse in both languages; (4) conducting a comparative analysis to highlight cross-linguistic similarities and culturally specific strategies; (5) developing practical recommendations for detecting and countering manipulative language in forensic, media, and educational settings.
Using mixed-method analysis combining qualitative tools like discourse and pragmatic analysis with quantitative methods, the study reveals key differences in manipulation styles between languages: English favors indirect manipulation through euphemism and metaphor while Uzbek relies on direct emotional appeals and authoritative language. Despite these differences, techniques like presupposition and implicature are shown to be universally applicable across both languages.
The findings emphasize the culturally conditioned nature of manipulative discourse and its dependency on sociopragmatic norms of each linguistic community. By showing how manipulation operates through lexical, syntactic, and pragmatic structures, the study contributes to theoretical developments in forensic linguistics and practical domains like legal language evaluation, media literacy, and language education. The research underscores the need for developing critical linguistic awareness to recognize manipulation in overt and covert forms, particularly in high-stakes contexts such as courtroom testimony, political rhetoric, and news reporting.
