This article aims to examine the system of objects in the works of the Argentine shortstory writer, poet, and critic J.L. Borges, with the objective of elucidating the symbolism within his narratives and its role in the realm of fiction. Fiction is a pivotal concept in literary criticism. The objectives of this article include an exploration of the primary literary objects in J.L. Borges’s stories and an analysis of the symbolism’s significance, grounded in the author’s artistic intent.
The article addresses these objectives through the application of sociological, historical, cultural, comparative, and, to some extent, biographical, psychological, psychoanalytical, and creativegenetic methodologies. The findings of the study suggest that the symbolism in J.L. Borges’s works predominantly serves to convey philosophical concepts such as infinity, abstraction, human existence, and the essence of life.
Philosophical and spiritual perspectives propose that individuals should continuously seek and discern the most appropriate path throughout their lives. J.L. Borges’s works resonate with the harmonious blend of avant-garde and fusunistic realism. Guided by a philosophical ethos, the protagonists in J.L. Borges’s stories pursue a higher truth. In this pursuit, he intricately entangles his literary characters in both tangible and psychological labyrinths.
An individual who successfully navigates these labyrinths gains an understanding of life’s meaning. In essence, the meticulous preparation of foresight is essential for unraveling the metaphorical complexities within the stories. The conclusion drawn is that J.L. Borges’s works remain subjects of ongoing debate, with diverse interpretations in each critic’s analysis, primarily attributable to two common themes: the notions of infinity and fragility.
