The objective of this study is to conduct a linguistic analysis of the spoken discourse of English-speaking military personnel. This analysis elucidates the interaction between speech and language, as well as the phonetic, grammatical, and lexical features of spoken discourse. Spoken discourse is a direct manifestation of language activity, evolving over time. Although speech is a product of language, it is not synonymous with it, as language serves as a means of communication, while speech reflects individual variations.
The aims of the study include providing valuable insights into how the phonetic, grammatical, and lexical aspects of language in spoken discourse develop and function in various contexts.
The methodology of the study is based on linguistic analysis techniques, including descriptive and comparative approaches. A lexical database and relevant scientific literature are examined. Structural and semantic analysis methods are also employed to identify patterns in word formation processes.
The findings demonstrate how speech varies between individuals and contexts, often introducing novel phonetic, lexical, or grammatical features. Some features may gradually be incorporated into the language, while others may disappear if contradicting the general trajectory of language development. Elements unused for extended periods may become archaic. The significance of language acquisition through oral and written forms, and the importance of identifying and comprehending language development patterns, including phonetic features such as sound composition, word structure, and intonation, are also revealed through examples.
The discourse of English-speaking military personnel exhibits distinctive characteristics phonetically, lexically, and grammatically. Phonetically, the speech is characterized by pronounced emotional intonation. Lexically, specialized military terminology and jargon are frequently employed in oral communication, and grammatically, concise and precise sentences are more prevalent. Collectively, these elements serve to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of military communication, and contribute to maintaining soldier cohesion and leadership.
