Features of Translation of Phytonomic Lexemes

The present article examines the specific features of phytonymic lexemes in translation, with particular reference to their use in the epic Alpomish. The analysis highlights not only the lexical meanings of phytonyms, but also their symbolic, cultural, and historical dimensions. The equivalents of these plant names in Uzbek, English, and Russian are compared in order to demonstrate how different cultures interpret and symbolise botanical references. The findings substantiate the need to ensure the interplay of linguistic, cultural, and poetic factors when translating phytonyms.
Furthermore, the article, devoted to the topic “The Specificity of Translating Phytonymic Lexemes”, focuses on the linguistic and cultural characteristics of plant names and their renderings into other languages. The author employs comparative, linguistic, semantic, and contextual analysis techniques to examine Uzbek phytonymic lexemes alongside their counterparts in other languages, clarifying their meanings and cultural connotations. The study provides a detailed discussion of the challenges encountered in translating plant names, including terminological discrepancies, cross-cultural differences, and context-dependent ambiguities.
Additionaly, the article underscores the importance of an intercultural approach in translating Uzbek phytonymic lexemes and emphasises the necessity of preserving semantic accuracy and stylistic equivalence throughout the translation process. Drawing on illustrative examples, the author analyses the equivalents of plant names in various languages and explicates their linguistic characteristics. The research results offer practical guidance for accurately and effectively translating the rich phytonymic vocabulary of the Uzbek language into other languages. Also, plant symbolism lacks equivalents, requiring translators to convey complex meanings.
Finally, the study is of value to linguists, translators, and cultural studies scholars, as it elucidates the intrinsic relationship between language and culture in translation. It also provides scientifically grounded recommendations for addressing translation difficulties and overcoming them. The outcomes of the research are significant not only for translation theory, but also for practical translation work.
