The purpose of this article is to investigate the lexicographic representation of information and communication technology (ICT) terms in French and Uzbek by conducting a comparative analysis that focuses on their form–meaning relationships, semantic structure, functional-pragmatic characteristics, and both shared tendencies and language-specific features.
The object of the research comprises ICT terms used in French and Uzbek, their dictionary definitions, semantic explanations, and domains of actual usage in contemporary discourse. More specifically, the subject of the study includes the morphological and semantic structure of ICT terms, their functional properties, and the principles underlying their lexicographic description in traditional and digital dictionaries, such as Le Robert, Larousse, CNRTL, DDF, and Uzbek explanatory lexicographic sources. Particular attention is paid to the role of the terminologization process in the development of modern lexical systems.
Accordingly, the main objectives of the article are to analyze form–meaning relationships of ICT terms from a lexicographic perspective; to identify dominant structural-semantic models of terminology; to compare functional usage features in French and Uzbek; to substantiate the influence of terminologization on language development; and to assess the effectiveness of digital approaches in contemporary lexicography.
To achieve these objectives, a set of linguistic methods was applied. First, descriptive analysis was used to identify formal, semantic, and functional features of ICT terms. Then, comparative-typological analysis enabled the identification of similarities and differences between the two languages, while lexicographic analysis examined term interpretations in explanatory, translation, and digital dictionaries, and semantic modeling clarified the mechanisms of semantic change.
As a result, corpus observation and digital lexicographic resources were employed to analyze usage frequency, contextual behavior, and contemporary interpretations of ICT terms, demonstrating that digital lexicography plays a crucial role in reflecting terminological dynamics and ensuring accurate, up-to-date descriptions of ICT vocabulary in both languages.
