Abstract

This article highlights the life and work of the enlightener Mahmudkhoja Behbudi. His interest in education and literature was shaped by the intellectual atmosphere in his family, which nurtured his inclination toward enlightenment and literary pursuits. In his articles, Mahmudkhoja Behbudi put forward ideas about implementing large-scale political, economic, and educational reforms in Turkistan. Continuing the movement of enlightenment, he sought to awaken the people from the sleep of ignorance by opening new schools, keeping up with the progress of the age and the development of the world, promoting the press, and establishing dramaturgy and theater activities. Mahmudkhoja Behbudi was an enlightened Jadid who became a martyr for the freedom of Turkistan. His advice remains relevant today, in line with the standards of the modern era.
