The portrayal of women has been a crucial element throughout history, but the dystopia genre has proven to be the most effective genre for depicting women's lack of independence and perceived weakness. The article discusses the portrayal of gender with a focus on gender hierarchy, reproductive control, gender-based oppression, objectification, sexual violence, resistance, and empowerment.
