Every country takes pride in its national heroes and courageous leaders. There are certain periods and events in a nation’s history that will forever be remembered and documented. Those who fought for the future of their country, sacrificed their lives, and those who have left a legacy behind are a testament to this fact.
The period between the 19th and 20th centuries was a significant time in the history of Uzbek literature, which has a rich and ancient past. Unfortunately, the loss of our independence was a great misfortune for our people. On the other hand, the literature became westernized under the influence of the events of the time, and new literary types and genres appeared according to the demand of the era. Literary activity was organized in the governorate of Turkestan, which was completely subordinate to Russia, and in the khanates of Bukhara and Khiva, rather than the three independent khanates. The literature of the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century is referred to as the literature of the National Renaissance because it was shaped by the essence and spirit of the national revival.
The purpose of this article is to discuss the Jadid movement’s role in promoting national identity, independence and knowledge sharing among their people, as well as their contributions to the development of our country across all areas. The article particularly focuses on the Jadids’ achievements in school organization, press, and literature. It also highlights the significant works of Mahmudhoja Behbudi, Abdulla Avloni, Munavvarqori Abdurashidkhanov, Is’haqkhan Ibrat, Abdurauf Fitrat, Abdulla Qadiri, Abdulhamid Cholpon, Usman Nasir, who are modern era intellectuals that have played a vital role in the development of our country.
The article aims to conduct a comparative analysis of the Jadid movement, including its formation and defeat. It also explores the conclusions that can be drawn from the scientific study of the spiritual and educational legacy left by our ancestors.
The article’s findings can enhance literary research and appreciation of ancestral heritage.
