Abstract

In the current era of globalization, the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies into education has introduced significant innovations for both students and faculty members. This article examines the role of AI technologies in enhancing the English-language linguistic competence of students in non-philological fields of study, as well as their opportunities and limitations from a scientific and theoretical perspective.
The primary objective of the study was to identify the methodological foundations for improving the linguistic competence of non-philological students through AI technologies and to determine effective ways of integrating these technologies into the educational process. The research tasks included analyzing AI-based educational programs, teaching methods, learning platforms, and scientific studies conducted both internationally and in Uzbekistan, as well as examining their didactic potential.
To accomplish these objectives, the study employed scientific literature analysis, questionnaire surveys, systematic and comparative analysis, and statistical data processing methods. A survey was conducted among students and faculty members of non-philological higher education institutions in Uzbekistan to investigate the current use of AI technologies, their opportunities, and existing challenges.
The findings indicate that AI-powered educational platforms, chatbots, NLP-based applications, machine learning tools, and other AI technologies effectively support the development of linguistic competence and other foreign language skills. The results also show that these technologies increase students’ learning motivation, foster independent learning skills, and contribute to the development of individualized learning trajectories. Furthermore, AI facilitates faster foreign language acquisition, accelerates the learning of professional terminology, and improves students’ ability to apply knowledge in practical and professional contexts.
The study concludes that the methodologically sound and pedagogically justified integration of AI technologies significantly enhances students’ linguistic competence and contributes to improving the overall quality of foreign language education.
