The objective of this investigation is to elucidate the issues of conceptualization and categorization of phraseological units with an anthroponymic component in English and Uzbek languages from unrelated language families. Previous studies have analyzed the cognitive aspect, including the concept analysis, of phraseological units within a particular language. However, the concept analysis and the issues of conceptualization and categorization of phraseological units with an anthroponymic component, belonging to different language families, has not been sufficiently explored.
Historical people directly influencing historical events, images mentioned in religious statements, heroes sung in masterpieces of folklore, personages written in the literary world and members of nation leave a special mark in human’s mind with their outstanding and unrepeatable features as well as participate in the component of phraseological units as anthroponyms. Due to above-mentioned peculiarities of such anthroponyms, they lay the groundwork for the formation of certain concepts. The tasks of this study include the concept analysis of phraseological units containing anthroponyms, classification of concepts into certain categories as a result of conceptualization and verbalization of such concepts in language by means of phraseological units with an anthroponymic component.
From a cognitive viewpoint, the anthroponyms in the component of phraseological units are not concluded as linguistic phenomenon, but are interpreted as the product of human’s encyclopaedic knowledge about anthroponyms. Therefore, phraseological units with an anthroponymic component are viewed as significant linguistic units with regard to the formation of certain concepts and their verbalization in language. The conclusion drawn is that the categories of HUMAN, OBJECT, MOVEMENT, PLACE, TIME and ABSTRACTION are considered as concepts of superordinate level. They, in turn, possess such categories of basic level as behaviour, thing, event, physical movement, wealth, past, life, illusion and their categories of subordinate level are verbalized in language via phraseological units with an anthroponymic component.
