The main purpose of this article is to provide a scientifically grounded analysis of technologies and systems of exercises that contribute to the effective organization of the traditional process of foreign language teaching. The objectives of the study encompass several major directions: first, to systematically develop foreign language skills, particularly oral speech proficiency, through exercises and tasks; second, to conduct a detailed scientific analysis of exercise systems incorporated into technologies applied for the effective organization of traditional instruction; third, to develop practical recommendations and determine the possibilities of their implementation in the educational process; fourth, to increase student motivation, foster critical thinking skills, and create a foundation for future pedagogical practice for students majoring in philology.
The research methodology includes a pedagogical experiment, practical classes, interactive tasks, interviews, questionnaires, and methods of comparative statistical analysis. The experiment was conducted with first-year students of Tashkent Perfect University and was aimed at developing their English oral communication skills. The system of exercises was divided into three stages: motivational exercises, topic-based assessment exercises, and critical thinking exercises. Motivational exercises encouraged students to learn English and attracted their attention to classroom activities. Assessment exercises ensured a deeper mastery of the topic, whereas critical thinking exercises taught students to analyze texts, draw logical conclusions, discuss controversial issues, and generate various solutions.
The results of the experiment showed that step-by-step application of the exercise system was highly effective. Significant improvement was observed in students’ English oral communication skills while motivation and interest increased. Comparative statistical analysis confirmed changes in performance. The study also developed philology students’ practical and pedagogical competencies and helped them create independent exercises adapted to learners’ needs. Dividing exercises into motivational assessment and critical thinking categories and applying them consistently improved English learning outcomes greatly for all students markedly.
